Food Pantry
This ministry currently offers food to needy families in the Fifth Ward and in the surrounding communities every Monday night. The majority of the food comes from local churches and other organizations who collect specific items that are donated and from the Houston Food Bank. The food is then sorted and handed out on Monday nights. During the process, families are prayed with and spiritual needs are addressed. Churches can get involved through food drives (see Food Pantry Grocery list) or by volunteering to serve at the mission. Clothes Closet
Part of the mission has been designated as a clothes closet for needy families. This ministry closely works with the food pantry during the intake process. As families come to the mission they are received through our intake system and their need for food and clothing is evaluated. Volunteers walk each individual and/family through the closet assisting them in picking out clothes and shopping for the items they need. This hands-on approach gives our team an opportunity to provide hope to those who need it most. Occasionally the mission is in need of seasonal clothing from children through adults. Basketball Open Gym
This ministry takes place on Thursdays nights in our gym. The importance of reaching men and boys in the Fifth Ward and surrounding community cannot be overemphasized. This open gym is organized with “pick-up” games and a designated devotional time. The team serving here takes part in mentoring young men in a group setting and playing basketball with all those who attend. The point person for this ministry is Jody Palmer, you can email him at info@farringtonmission.org.
